Plan paths before you fasten
Lay out trunk lines and service loops first, then branch to devices. Keep power separate from data where you can. Dry-fit runs and mark clamp points so nothing twists once you tighten.
Use clamps for strain relief, not just looks
Cable clamps stop sagging and keep terminations stress-free. Space them consistently and leave gentle bends into patch panels and switches. If a bundle needs to move later, add a small service loop near the rack face.
Clean pass‑throughs with grommets
Any hole through wood or metal should get a grommet. It protects jackets and makes rerouting painless. Size the opening for the grommet, not the cable, so the fit stays snug when you add or remove lines.
Cut and finish with control
A Dremel makes quick, precise cutouts for grommets and cable paths. Deburr edges before installing hardware. Drive mounting screws with the M12 Milwaukee Impact Driver on a low setting to avoid stripping and to keep clamps aligned.
Label as you go
Label both ends of trunks and device leads before you close the rack. Group labels by function (WAN, LAN, AP, IoT) so future changes don’t unravel your tidy layout.
